For some of you, you were born with the love. In fact, some have asked me "how do you not love coffee?" This post is for all the coffee lovers, the coffee enthusiast, and the coffee adapters.
At age 16, I began to explore Memphis for myself. A huge part of that was discovering coffee shops. In fact, I believe that's where my first love for 901 stemmed from. Growing up in a semi-european culture, the chill factor of cafe's was the norm. When we moved, it just disappeared. I didn't know I missed that, until I rediscovered it here in Memphis.
Well I proceeded to spend basically half of my week sitting in coffee shops with my laptop editing, emailing, and hanging out with friends. The painful part? I ordered hot chocolate. Every. Single. Time. YES. *cringe* EVERY TIME. Now if you are hot chocolate lover - please don't be offended (I am a hot chocolate snob myself, as i've tried it at every coffee shop), but eventually I began to feel like I was insulting the baristas. The create amazing art, mixtures, and give so much time to their work, and I just order hot chocolate?
The unfortunate truth that I hated the taste and idea of coffee was becoming detrimental in my new lifestyle I wanted.
So... I took on a challenge. I decided to like coffee. I am now what you call a coffee enthusiast. Not a lover (at least not yet) BUT I am learning. I began to research coffee, try new weird drinks, look up and down menus, take explanatory pamphlets home.. everything. With no shame, I tell you there is a chart of coffee drink explanations I taped up over my desk.
So whats the point?
I have fallen in love with what coffee does. It brings people together, it lets artists create, and it is different every where you go. How incredible is that? I'm all about vibes... and coffee shop vibes - mmmm give me six hours to soak it all in. You can ask my friends, I've sat for hours on end getting work done in cafes and shops. I have a list of coffee shops in different cities and countries I intend visiting.
How I am learning to like coffee?
Its common for me to have a huddle of baristas around me... Being honest and just saying "I know nothing, what do I want?" - that is how I learn. It's actually a lot of fun! I get to quiz them on what this syrup is, or why should I add milk, or whats the difference of drip coffee and expresso? I mean, there is so much to learn!
With all that said, I wish you a happy
National Coffee Day for the first time as a coffee enthusiast.
Be brave. Try something new. Today I tried a Carmel Salted Iced Coffee (at least I think that's what he called it) at City & State. And it was pretty darn good.
Enjoy some of my favorite pictures from Hope & I's
Memphis Adventure Day.

It was a beautiful day.
