Art Walk // April Showers

This next blog post was written by one of my best friends, Hope Peck. I think it's important as well as fascinating to listen and read how others experience the same event you did.

Memphis weather has no mercy, but there are select occasions where one must suck it up, and brave whatever Mother Nature has to offer. Broad Avenue Art walk was one of those such occasions --heavy rain and flash flood warnings would not hold me back, and I knew Emily well enough to know that she wasn't afraid of a little rain, either, and made a last-minute proposal to go together. Needless to say, she accepted, and we weathered the storm together.
I had been wanting to check out City & State for a while, and this seemed like a good opportunity. City & State is a coffee shop/gift shop that opened just over a month ago on the corner of Broad and Collins. I stumbled upon their Instagram page (@cityandstate) recently, and immediately felt compelled to experience the SUPER HIP AESTHETIC. I'm a sucker for super hip coffee shop aesthetics and a well-made caffeinated beverage, so we made that our first stop.

Emily and I were both super impressed with the uniqueness and the quality of all of the products in their shop, and spent a good amount of time staring and longing after a multitude of gems that we found.

After perusing the gift shop, we headed over to grab something to drink. Or, at least I did; Emily doesn't do coffee so much (yet).

Barista Jeremy was very helpful and patient while I decided what to order. I get nervous making coffee-related decisions, but chose a cortado upon recommendation, and got to watch every step of it's delicious creation.

...seriously. YAY COFFEE! It was so yummy.

After coffee, we ventured out into the street to see what there was to see.

Water Tower Pavilion featured live music (despite the bad weather) and a large variety of local vendors/small business owners displaying and selling their products.
As a bit of a vintage nerd myself, I was especially excited to peruse clothes by Paulette's Closet. Paulette's Closet is run by Amanda Saucier, who was such a delight. I got to talk with her briefly and she shared a bit of her story with me -- one that includes a fabulous grandmother (Paulette's Closet's namesake) and a super love for retro fashion, which is so fun to find in another person. You can find her and some of her vintage gems on Facebook @ Paulette's Closet.

To finish it off, Emily and and I, soaking wet and feeling fully Memphian, headed over to Cafe Eclectic on McLean. Which is always a good idea.

The moral of the story is: Broad is growing, and we're thrilled about it! Art Walk is a wonderful opportunity to experience all that Broad Avenue has to offer, but DON'T WAIT FOR ART WALK! VISIT TODAY!
