What is a Dancing Through Memphis session? What is the commitment? What does a dancer do and how do they prep for it?
A Dancing Through Memphis session is 60 minutes long. And may I say, it is a leisure hour. We always have some extra time for relaxing, catching our breath, playing music, and checking out shots we get!
We ask that a dancer comes prepared with either a routine or some poses in mind! We work best if we have both! Its amazing to watch participants dance! You all are so talented, and make the team's job EASY! Our goal is capture you at your best, in motion, surrounded by Memphis.
I love showing shots I get straight in the camera! It gets both I and the dancer excited and even more willing to get down on the ground or up in the air! My knees never cease to be stained by dirt and I come home usually with scrapes and ice on my wrist. I can't even imagine if I had to dance! It still astounds me how much dancers push themselves and how beautiful their body's can be in the craziest leaps, stretches, and poses!
*we ask dancers to wear solid color, non- patterned attire. Although exception may apply depending**
A dancer preforms their routine for us with music playing through our portable bluetooth speaker. We find it helps everybody get better movement, images, and footage! Not to mention way more fun with some Beyonce jamming!
After the dancer is finished, I scroll through my images and ask them to do specific moves again, so I can get the best shot of that! I find a routine really helps us discover those killer shots that display their talent and hard work best!
Over all we try to have the most fun we can in our hour with each dancer! We conclude our sessions with a little interview, for the purpose of documenting DTM. We are planning to create a full behind the scenes video to present with the portfolio! When we have time, we ask questions like "What keeps you dancing?" and "Why do you love Memphis?"

** Please take note, that most sessions actually include two or more photographers, an assistant, and/or a videographer! This was a little more solo for our team! We enjoy having a big group actually with us! **
